The Body Talks!
Author: Jasmine Edwards

Our bodies are vessels of wisdom and memory. It can hold on to the things that the mind locks off and
or has not processed. The body can alert us on what is going on within ourselves all we have to do is
connect. Let’s Talk about it….
Did you know that where we are feeling tension could be a signal of what is going on with us
mentally? If you are feeling tension in your jaw you could have issues with anger and or holding back
your truth. If you have tension in your legs you may be struggling with moving forward and fear
change. If you have tension in your low back, maybe you are worried about money and or
experiencing lack of stability in your life. Are you having tension in your chest? You may be
experiencing heart break, grief, and or emotional pain. If you have tension in your head or frequent
headaches you might have issues with anxiety, over thinking, and or trying to control everything. You
feel tension in your shoulders? You might be carrying too much and taking too much responsibility.
Ask for help when you need it.
However, there is a way that you can reduce these negative feelings and pains within your body. First
you can work on understanding yourself deeper. You can do this by journaling and sitting with your
thoughts and feelings. You do not have to always be reactive. Secondly, notice your patterns. When
do I experience these body tensions? What is going on when they happen? Ask yourself why am I
feeling tension here? Thirdly, do not force answers and just acknowledge.
Here are some additional gems to help you reduce tension in the body and reduce stress.
● Deep breathing/ slow breathing
○ Just Inhale and exhale while making sure you are safe and grounded
○ Focus on your breathing
● Place your hand where you are feeling the tension while you are implementing deep
breathing.
● Rubbing your hand together to create heat
○ Then place your warm hands on the places you can reach where you feel tension
○ Pair with deep breathing
However, do remember that some pain is not always emotional, it can be physical as well. That is why
it is always wise to consult with your doctor and or therapist to help guide you to find out what is
actually going on with your body.
As always remember…
You are enough
You are valuable
You are worthy of love
